03 Former St. Andrew’s Church

United Free Parish Church built 1885 and closed in 2005

In 1844 an Act was passed which allowed the creation of new parishes.  Under the terms of the act Aberfeldy parish was created and in 1883 this church was built as a “Chapel of Ease” partly funded by the central board after the local community raised £1500.

United Presbyterian Church

During its construction a high wind on the 18th November 1883 brought down the west gable. This was repaired and the church completed.  To maintain the running costs, the practice of seat rents was instituted. Seats in the North or South transepts cost 5/- per annum, front two centre pews were free, the next seven 2/- and the back three 3/-; under the gallery was 4/-.  The side pews were 16/- and the front two rows in the gallery were 5/-.

This became the parish church on the 19th March 1897 as the United Free Church and was dedicated to St. Andrew.

These are views of the interior showing the remains of the seating and the building’s dilapidated state.

It closed in 2005. It is now in a sad state, derelict and up for sale.
